ColorSight Pro: Advanced Training Device for Complex Color Recognition in the Color Blind
This invention uses Arduino and smartphones to help people with color blindness easily identify colors, displaying information via earphones and an LCD screen. It focuses on training color differentiation through a user-friendly application and portable sensor, making it practical for everyday use and significantly cheaper than existing correction products.
This invention features a design utilizing Arduino and smartphones for convenient use in daily life. Aimed at helping people with color blindness or color vision deficiency easily identify colors, it employs an Arduino sensor and smartphone camera to recognize colors, displaying the information via earphones and an LCD screen.
The process can be divided into the methods of color recognition, the way colors are conveyed, the color recognition algorithm, and the overall prototype design. Using the Arduino color sensor TCS34725, it distinguishes colors. The application is simple: users take a photo, select a desired point on the image, and the RGB values of that pixel reveal the color. The app connects to Arduino via Bluetooth to convey color information through an audio or visual output.
As shown in Photo 2-2, the smartphone camera captures the image, and in Photo 2-3, touching a point on the photo reveals the RGB values and the corresponding color name. Both recognition methods use RGB values to identify a wide range of colors, but the prototype focuses on red, green, blue, yellow, and black for color vision training purposes.
This device not only aids in training color differentiation for color-blind individuals but is also practical for everyday use. Unlike existing products that focus on correction, this invention emphasizes the training process needed for correction. It is also designed for ease of use, with the sensor encased in a pencil-shaped 3D-printed holder for portable color recognition. Additionally, it is significantly cheaper than existing products like ChromaGen lenses.
